MidSomerset Festival success 2023
MidSomerset Festival success 2023

We are now in our seventh year, and have performed in many competitions, special concerts and fundraising events.

In our earlier years we raised £350 for the Countess of Brecknock Hospice, performing in the Mayor’s Variety Show, raising £960 for Upper Chute Church, singing in the Andover Rocks Fundraiser raising £539, and performing in the Anton Rotary Variety Show that raised £2000 for Countess of Brecknock Hospice in 2018, and funds in 2019 for Andover young Carers. We sang in the Andover Rocks event which raised £2435, and held our biggest solo concert yet at The Lights, Andover, raising £873.60 for Andover Mind and Andover and District Mencap. We had the honour of singing at Light up a Life Service for the Countess of Brecknock at St Mary’s. Our Christmas Concerts raised £1100 for Thruxton War Memorial Hall and Thruxton Parish Church, and we had fabulous festive fun performing at Highclere Castle.

We continued to meet and sing via Zoom during lockdown and produced a virtual choir video performance. We performed for the Countess of Brecknock 2020 recorded service and Andover Mind’s advent calendar. We also sang in the online ChoirShow 2 and 3.

In the Summer 2021 we had a sell out concert at Thruxton Hall, performed at the Tower of London as part of Project Get Singing’s Choirs at the Tower festival and sang in the Andover Rocks event 2021 and 2022. We sang for the Countess of Brecknock 2021 recorded service, returned to sing at the Tower in December, and also performed at the Royal Festival Hall.

In June 2022, we sang as part of Thruxton’s Jubilation concert from the side of a huge truck in a field, to over 400 people, we also helped raise £1667 for the Brighter Futures CT Scanner Appeal in Swindon. In July we sang in the Winchester Hat Fair on St John’s Lawn, and for the opening of the show homes for a local housing development.

In November 2022 we performed for a crowd of thousands at the Andover Christmas Lights event. We once more sang for the Countess of Brecknock Light up a Life Service in December and raised £450 for Thruxton Memorial Hall in our Christmas Concert.

We have enjoyed taking part in competitions and sang in the MidSomerset Festival in March 2020, being awarded distinctions in all 4 classes and 2 first places. We performed in 4 classes at the Cheltenham Festival of performing Arts in May 2022 and gained Honours in all classes.

We returned to the MidSomerset Festival in March 2023 and were awarded 3 First places, a Second and the only Outstanding of the day.

This year we held our summer concert again at The Lights, Andover and went to sing at the Beggar’s Fair in Romsey, outside the Abbey in Church Place. We were voted in to the top 10 newcomers for the event! We were delighted to be invited to join Swindon Male Voice Choir for their summer concert and had a really super time, raising money for Prospect Place hospice and performing together.

We returned to The Lights in November, to sing with Tenors Unlimited,  and the following weekend we were back at The Tower of London performing three sets of Festive music. We sang for the Countess of Brecknock Light Up A Life Service, always an honour, joined Beenham Wind Orchestra for a wonderful Christmas Concert, then completed the term’s performances by singing for the Officer’s Christmas Dinner at the Army Headquarters in Andover. What an incredible term!
